Scott Harrington

Scott Harrington

Scott moved to Cumbria in 1990 and set up Hyde Harrington with Tony Hyde in 1994. Scott is a chartered building surveyor and is principally involved in de-risking projects for clients and co-ordinating all designs, specifications, contract procurement and management of construction projects from a client's initial ideas through to handing the keys over on completion.

Scott is also regularly recommended by the courts as expert witness in dealing with building disputes, boundary disputes and other similar matters, having acted in well over a thousand disputes since moving to Cumbria. Twice having been chairman of the North West regional branch of The Pyramus and Thisbe Club, the long established organisation that helped draft the latest party wall legislation, Scott has acted in several hundred party wall disputes since the Act was extended to cover the remainder of England and Wales in the mid 1990s.

Away from the office, Scott is a keen golfer and enjoys walking in the Lake District.

Grant Long

Grant Long

Grant hails from Cheshire and studied for his degree in Building Surveying In London. In 1990, he joined Smiths Gore and then latterly Peter Fall Cowie in their Carlisle offices whilst qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor. Grant joined Hyde Harrington in 1998, becoming an Associate and then a Director in 2000.

Grant is principally involved in dilapidations, schedules of condition and condition surveys, whilst acting for landlords and tenants on commercial property. He is also involved in expert witness work in relation to building disputes and boundary disputes. Grant is a member of the The Pyramus and Thisbe Club and regularly acts in party wall disputes. He is also involved in building design and specification works, contract procurement and management of construction projects through to completion. Grant is also involved in Building Surveys on residential and commercial properties, pre-acquisition surveys and specific defect inspections.

Outside of work Grant spends most of his time with his family, but when he gets the opportunity enjoys cycling, walking in the Lakes and tending the garden.

Trevor Hargraves

Trevor Hargraves

Trevor is from Northumberland and after graduating in General Practice Surveying in Newcastle in 1977 he worked for the Department of the Environment in Birmingham whilst qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor. He then headed back north, firstly to Keswick for three years and then to a large Chartered Surveying practice in Newcastle, specialising in Commercial Agency.

Moving to Cumbria in 1978 Trevor worked for Smiths Gore in their Carlisle office before joining Scott at Hyde Harrington in 2001 when he set up the commercial agency and general practice side of the business. He undertakes many valuations for all purposes, but especially for the major banks, and deals with sales and lettings of all types of non-domestic properties. Trevor also acts for clients in landlord and tenant matters.

In his leisure time Trevor is a sports enthusiast and admits to holding a season ticket at Carlisle United. He enjoys his garden, bees and chickens and the rural life of Lanercost in the Irthing Valley in the north east of the County.

Paul Evans

Paul Evans

Paul became a Member of the RICS in 1998 after studying Estate Management in Birmingham. After a period of time spent working in private practice and the more specialised field of telecommunications, Paul relocated with his family to Cumbria in 2010 to establish the Kendal office of Hyde Harrington following which Paul became a Director of Hyde Harrington in 2013.

Paul is involved with all aspects of commercial property surveying including private and local authority valuation work, agency sales, lettings and acquisitions and providing advice on landlord and tenant matters such as lease renewals and rent reviews.

Away from the office Paul has an almost obsessive interest in cycling and can be often found trying not to get himself lost on the local fells or attempting to ‘bag’ the local passes.

Ruth Richardson

Ruth Richardson

Ruth grew up in Leeds and spent her teenage years living in the rural North Pennine village of Nenthead. Ruth's interest in property began in 2001 when she took up a position in residential sales and lettings with Pennine Ways based in Alston.

Ruth returned to her studies attending the University of Northumbria in Newcastle in 2005 and graduated with First Class honours in BSc Estate Management in 2009. During her time at university Ruth undertook a summer placement with Carlisle City Council and in 2007 was appointed an Assistant Surveyor with Hyde Harrington, completing her degree part-time.

Ruth was promoted to an Associate of Hyde Harrington in 2013 and works in the busy general practice department from the Carlisle office. Ruth specialises in commercial valuation, undertaking work for various purposes but largely for secured lending for the major financial institutions. Additionally, she deals with agency and professional work including sales and lettings, rent reviews and lease renewals for all types of non-domestic property.

Ruth has been an active member of the Cumbria Matrics Group and sits on the committee for the RICS Cumbria Local Association and the RICS Lancs and Cumbria Commercial Professional Group. In addition she is an APC Doctor providing advice and support to trainee surveyors following the commercial property and valuation pathways to qualification

Ruth's spare time is spent with her husband and son, family and friends. Being a self-confessed home bird she is glad to say that there is not currently much time for anything else.
