Scott moved to Cumbria in 1990 and set up Hyde Harrington with Tony Hyde in 1994. Scott is a chartered building surveyor and is principally involved in de-risking projects for clients and co-ordinating all designs, specifications, contract procurement and management of construction projects from a client's initial ideas through to handing the keys over on completion.
Scott is also regularly recommended by the courts as expert witness in dealing with building disputes, boundary disputes and other similar matters, having acted in well over a thousand disputes since moving to Cumbria. Twice having been chairman of the North West regional branch of The Pyramus and Thisbe Club, the long established organisation that helped draft the latest party wall legislation, Scott has acted in several hundred party wall disputes since the Act was extended to cover the remainder of England and Wales in the mid 1990s.
Away from the office, Scott is a keen golfer and enjoys walking in the Lake District.
Grant hails from Cheshire and studied for his degree in Building Surveying In London. In 1990, he joined Smiths Gore and then latterly Peter Fall Cowie in their Carlisle offices whilst qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor. Grant joined Hyde Harrington in 1998, becoming an Associate and then a Director in 2000.
Grant is principally involved in dilapidations, schedules of condition and condition surveys, whilst acting for landlords and tenants on commercial property. He is also involved in expert witness work in relation to building disputes and boundary disputes. Grant is a member of the The Pyramus and Thisbe Club and regularly acts in party wall disputes. He is also involved in building design and specification works, contract procurement and management of construction projects through to completion. Grant is also involved in Building Surveys on residential and commercial properties, pre-acquisition surveys and specific defect inspections.
Outside of work Grant spends most of his time with his family, but when he gets the opportunity enjoys cycling, walking in the Lakes and tending the garden.
Paul became a Member of the RICS in 1998 after studying Estate Management in Birmingham. After a period of time spent working in private practice and the more specialised field of telecommunications, Paul relocated with his family to Cumbria in 2010 to establish the Kendal office of Hyde Harrington following which Paul became a Director of Hyde Harrington in 2013.
Paul is involved with all aspects of commercial property surveying including private and local authority valuation work, agency sales, lettings and acquisitions and providing advice on landlord and tenant matters such as lease renewals and rent reviews.
Away from the office Paul has an almost obsessive interest in cycling and can be often found trying not to get himself lost on the local fells or attempting to ‘bag’ the local passes.
Ruth is a Director of Hyde Harrington overseeing the valuation and general practice department in Carlisle.
She specialises in commercial valuation, largely for secured lending purposes and also deals with commercial agency and professional work for all types of non-domestic property.
Ruth graduated from Northumbria University with First Class honours in BSc Estate Management and shortly after qualified as a Chartered Valuation Surveyor under the Hyde Harrington training scheme.
Ruth is an active member of the RICS and sits on the committee for the RICS Cumbria Local Association. She is an APC Mentor providing support to trainee surveyors following the commercial property and valuation pathways to qualification
Ruth's spare time is spent with her husband and son, family and friends.
Adrian joined Hyde Harrington as a surveyor in 2005, not long after relocating to Cumbria from Scotland where he studied for an HND in Construction Management.
With currently close to twelve years’ experience within the company, Adrian has a wide understanding of the business and assists with varied technical support across all departments.
This experience has aided him in his current role as ‘IT and Technical Manager’, a role which sees him developing and maintaining all of our office systems and infrastructure so that we maintain at the forefront. Adrian is also frequently involved with CAD, drawings and technical assistance on the detailed nature of boundary disputes, amongst other items.
Adrian’s spare time is spent with his wife, son, family and friends and he enjoys travelling as much as he possibly can. He is also a keen runner and tries to get out once or twice a week.
Angus has a BA (Hons) in Town and Country Planning, an MSc in Architectural Conservation, and a Masters in Business Administration. He has been a Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute since 1990.
Angus moved to Carlisle in 1991 and has nearly 30 years of experience covering all types of development and aspects of the process whilst working for North Somerset District Council and Carlisle City Council. This experience includes the preparation of policy documents and associated legal agreements as well as appearing as a witness at Public Inquiries or an advocate at Hearings.
Needless to say, Angus is delighted to be a recent addition to Hyde Harrington.
Outside of work, he enjoys family life; sport; music; reading; and walking Dylan the family dog.
Caroline is from Kendal and attended school and college locally before joining Kendal based firm of solicitors, Milne Moser. From there she joined Hyde Harrington when the Kendal office opened in 2010.
Caroline’s role has progressed over the years and she now assists with the commercial property agency. Supporting Paul Evans, Caroline helps clients with their property requirements from assisting at viewings, negotiating terms and corresponding with parties to finalise matters. She is also responsible for general administration of the Kendal office.
Caroline has two young children who she says have a better social life than herself, she is therefore kept very busy with their activities in her spare time.
Chris is from South Cumbria, attending Cartmel Priory school. After several years away, and missing the Lake District lifestyle, he moved back to Grange over Sands in 2013. Chris joined Hyde Harrington in 2016, bringing a wealth of commercial building surveyor experience. Chris is a chartered building surveyor, and has significant experience in party wall, lead designer, contract administrator, building pathology, fund monitoring, and defect diagnosis.
Chris became an associate director of the business in October 2016, in recognition for his excellent work with the National Trust, for whom Chris is providing a broad range of surveying services.
Chris is a keen golfer, and loves spending his free time exploring the lake district with his family.
Colin is from the North East and a graduate Building Surveyor with over 11 years’ experience in the both the public and private sectors. Colin studied full time in Building Surveying at Northumbria University before starting his surveying career in local government where he worked for over 5 years. He later moved into the private sector with Summers Inman before finally joining Hyde Harrington in October 2015.
Colin is principally involved in, design and specification works, contract procurement and management of construction projects through to completion. He also regularly undertakes schedules of condition and condition surveys.
In his leisure time Colin enjoys long walks with his family and Rhodesian Ridgeback Beau
Eric was born and brought up in Kendal and as yet he has not ventured further afield. He has worked in the construction industry all his life, with the past 30 years in the Quantity Surveying field. He generalises in both pre and post contract sectors and in some cases taking the projects from inception, through all stages from the estimate, tender, post contract site works procedures, to final account agreement.
When leisure time is available he has many interests, all facets of sport, though mostly pursued from the comfort of a fireside armchair nowadays or the stands at either St.James’s or Kingston Parks in Newcastle.
Other outside pursuits include fell walking, golf (infrequently) and his favourite and main interest - bird watching. He balances his outside activities with a more gentle side to his character as he enjoys choral singing, in particular the classical works of Mozart, Handel, Haydn etc.
Jane joined Hyde Harrington 2008. Jane has always lived in Cumbria, and was educated at Trinity School, then Carlisle College.
Jane was previously Practice Manager for Hyde Harrington, which has given her an in-depth insight into the company and how its run. However, as the company has continued to expand, Jane now manages all the company’s finances. Jane is responsible for all of the day to day tasks within the accounts role, along with the management accounts, budgeting, payroll and statutory returns to the HMRC, to name a few!
Jane works closely with Paul Evans doing the bookkeeping for the property portfolios that Hyde Harrington manage.
Jane also deals with all of the Directors confidential administration.
Away from the office Jane lives in Carlisle with her husband and two children and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
John joined Telford Hart Associates in 1986 training as a quantity surveyor. He studied part time and graduated from University of Central Lancashire in 1995 with a degree in Quantity Surveying. He joined Hyde Harrington in 2016 in their Kendal office.
John specialises in the pre-construction measurement of projects, developing new methods and computerised systems as required for individual projects. He has worked on projects ranging in size from small residential developments to supermarkets, hospitals and some of the largest buildings in the world.
Outside of work, John is kept busy by his young family and extensive DIY projects.
Karen joined Hyde Harrington in November 2016, and carries out reception duties together with providing administrative support to the Quantity Surveying department.
Outside of work Karen enjoys gardening and DIY.
Kathleen lives on the family hill farm near Haltwhistle.
Graduated from Newcastle University gaining a BSc. with Honours in Agricultural Zoology.
Kathleen has worked for Barclays Bank and the Cumberland Building Society in the past as well as acting as secretary for the business at home.
Kathleen joined Hyde Harrington on a part time basis in October 2009 in an administration role.
Any spare time is filled being unpaid groom and lorry driver for her daughter who is a keen showjumper.
Marie was born and bred in Cumbria. After attending Carlisle College, qualifying and working as a PA, she then moved into the property world working for Chartered Surveyors practices Carigiet Cowen and Peill & Co. A property management role at West Cumbria Development Agency followed and has had experience of the commercial property sector since 1992.
Marie joined Hyde Harrington in 2007 adding to their expanding general practice department, involved in commercial property sales, lettings and administration.
In December 2016 Marie took on the role of Office Manager, a crucial role required due to the continued expansion of the company. She will continue to support Hyde Harrington in property related activities.
Away from work, when not supporting her husband’s business, will be found outdoors, closely followed by her two Spaniels. She rides and is proud to be the owner of two native Fell Ponies. She is passionate about the breed and is a member of The Fell Pony Society.
Trevor is originally from Preston, Lancashire and studied for his degree at Liverpool Polytechnic. He qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in 1987. He has worked in both the public and private sectors in the UK together with stints in Dubai and Doha.
Trevor is experienced in all aspects of Quantity Surveying including cost planning, tender procurement, contract management and the negotiation of Final Accounts. He is also familiar with carrying out the role of Employer’s Agent and liaising closely with Clients.
Outside of the office, he enjoys taking advantage of living in the Lake District by tramping the fells and attempting to birdwatch.
Rory joined Hyde Harrington in 1999 after graduating from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, with a degree in Building Surveying.
He is responsible for contract administration, project management, developing designs and specifications.
Outside of work his interests include motorsport, classic cars, and hill walking.
Ray is originally from Newcastle upon Tyne where he studied Quantity Surveying at Newcastle Polytechnic and qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in 1974. He worked in Newcastle from 1973-1983 then moved to Carlisle, joining Telford Hart Associates, becoming a partner in 1991, a Fellow of the RICS in 1987 and retiring in early 2016.
He joined Hyde Harrington as a Consultant in October 2016.
Ray’s lengthy experience in the construction industry has involved all aspects of building cost consultancy, in the UK and Middle East. Concentrating on Feasibility Studies, detailed measured Cost Planning, Whole Life Building Costings, Contract Administration and Employer’s Agent duties.
He has an interest in all sports, walking the dog (to the pub) and is an aged motor biker, which keeps him busy outside the working environment.
Hugh is from the Lake District village of Caldbeck where he grew up on the family dairy farm. After attending The Nelson Thomlinson School in Wigton he went onto Northumbria University where he graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in BA Geography, during which time he spent a year abroad studying at Frostburg State University in Maryland, USA.
He is currently combining working as an Assistant Surveyor at Hyde Harrington with studying for a Real Estate Masters at Northumbria University. This is in order for him to gain a RICS accredited degree so he can begin the pathway in becoming a Chartered Commercial Surveyor.
Aside from his studies, Hugh plays semi-professional football for Carlisle City Football Club where he trains twice and plays once a week all over the north of England.
